You without a doubt have the BEST tutorials for miniature building and landscaping on UA-cam or anywhere. You are a genius and a gem!!!! Always love your content, and look forward to more!!! Thank you for your talent, enthusiasm and generous and kind spirit!!!!
Any good tips on how to build sewers for Skavens and the likes?
Yeah, why do you keep saying Yeah?
Can anyone tell me what EPVC actually is and where to find it? I’ve called sign shops but they either don’t know what it is or don’t use it
I love that technique. I wish I watched this video before I bought eight different moulds from Woodland Scenic…..😢
You didn’t even mention one of the big advantages of fleece mats which is being able to place your hills underneath the mat for a more realistic look.
does the Lychee have a different name? I just keep getting the fruit in my searches for it
I finished my first MDF kit two months ago. It was a gift. I found it a stress free build as all the pieces fit and I did not have to modify anything. You gave some great tips that I will use on my next build.
I have been studying winter terrain for over a month for A Christmas Carol diorama and this is by far the best tutorials for it. Thank you, Im glad I found this channel.
Oh Mel popped up on FYP. Gotta increase engagement. Much love Mel!
@14:28 I am now convinced there is no way I am going to walk away from this next project without getting electrocuted. Thanks for a great video!
Where did you get the coconut fiber?
Fantastic
Great video and thank you for covering the basics!
I just made a couple of stone/brick walls out of air dry clay from the dollar store. Quite simple to do, though you'd think making each brick would be a pain in the neck it really wasn't that bad.
"Terrain building is 50% making and 50% hiding where you've messed up" LOL. I picked a motte and bailey castle made from recyclables as my second-ever piece of wargaming terrain, and you have just descibed the experience perfectly. Although fixing stuff may have taken more than 50% of the time, actually. A major learning experience, but a lot of fun and I'm happy.
This is great. I recently bought some air dry clay and have started experimenting with using it for terrain and other wargaming applications. While I have experience with polymer clay, it was a long time ago and I have very little with airdry clay. This was really informative and I have already used some of these techniques when I stopped halfway through the video to go try stuff out before continuing. I feel like I have a bit better understanding of the material now. Thank you.
Just saw a tiktok that reminded me of you, came to check your channel but saw you haven't been posting. Hope you're ok ❤
Thank you so very much ....
This is an excellent video and I love air dry clay.
Think this is the first video of yours I watched, I'm not sure. Got taught allot by Mel over the years.
hope your doing ok man. The community appreciates your content!
Interesting. I've used pretty much the same technique, with one exception: I've been using pipe cleaners (or Chenille wire as it's called here, I think) instead of the plastig coated metal wire. It's basically a very cheap crafting material that's fluffy and comes in a variety of colors. After I twist the trunk and branches, I'm left with a very fluffy armature, but exposing it to a heat source melts the fuzzy bits into a very passable bark texture. A quick spray of black primer and some drybrushing and you've got a very nice tree.
[I, made some ground cover just like you explained in you're video and it's looks great. I, made 10- 5- gal. plastic bucket buckets full. dark green, light green, some fall colors like yellow orange and red]
What did you use as the basing material here? Eva foam?
Thanks Mel, great video! What did you use to teach, out of curiosity?
I used to use old Board Game boards.
Why did you not use the correct glue which is PVC Cement to bond the foam board to itself?
I have been using windsheld fluid to thin my paints house pants . The blue kind. It thins it but still lets it dry fast and its cheap
I hope you are doing ok with your struggles. Hang in there man! You bring alot of joy to alot of people.
Fantastic tutorial exactly what I was looking for
I am very new at this. I have been looking around at videos about Thatching. The question I have is what is the Filler you refer to? Is it like corn starch or sand? If you see this just let me know.
I am a GiJoe (Action Man) head reflocker in the US... I buy from the same vendor, Campbell-Coutts. They have the best selection of size and colors. I deal with mostly single color 100 gram bags but occasionally will get the 1 kilo bags. The shipping is outrageous to the US but you simply cannot get these materials here.
Is it best to scruff the disk up before applying any texture to the disk
A great video, thanks very much.Great ideas explained well for a beginner like myself
Болван.
Have you ever done a backdrop for a city/town?
I forgot how much this guy arbitrarily says "yea" nope, I'll learn elsewhere that's far too "I like bumping uglies with my sister" for my tolerance. 👋🏻
I realize that this is an old video, but I just found it. In it you said the PVA is the binder in this it's the major binder it is what pulls it all together and makes everything stick (I'm sorry if I don't have that 100% correct). Can you please explain that statement? Is the PVA making the paint stick to the foam or is the PVA used to make the foam stick to the final product? Doesn't the PVA make the foam hard when it is dry? Thank you for your time.
Good to see you again Mel. Where you been in terms of social media / videos ? you used to live stream quite regularly.
Thanks so much for this! I live in the American Southwest and how to model desert scenery is rarely discussed. Your insights helped me to give up working with washes on my Arizona train diorama, and I have had great success with just dry brushing and using a much lighter base and a much different color palette than if you were doing granite rocks or forest hillsides. I've just been working with tiny amounts of full strength paints (4) and some extra fluffy brushes. I just focus on the vertical faces and use dirt and landscaping for ground cover. Simple and fun!
How is the powder snow sticking to the ground (even after blowing it as you said) when you sprinkle it on? How did it stick to the top surface of the rocks but not the THIN sides?
Oooh I’m just trying to preserve juniper boughs but now I know how to get my game obsessed kid into foraging 😂😂😂
Aquarium plastic plants? Smart.
The detail on the pro terrain tips is amazing Mel.
Das boot
The main reason I prefer flock over something like static grass is because one, it won’t come off as easily, and two, you don’t have to take a mortgage out to buy an applicator.
Love the video and definitely going to follow along to it. Can you recommend a UK supplier for the larger trees? Or any trees for that matter.
Great stuff, I miss some water pools in the craters as the pva wash hinted. But if I get the space I will replicate it as you did, love it.
Really useful for pet project
